Too many metrics!

Too many metrics!

On a coaching call last week, an agency owner showed me the financial metrics that he was looking at every week.

There were nine metrics, and he didn’t know what to do if any of them were off track.

Too many.

Here’s what I recommend instead.

Imagine that you’re driving a car.

Mostly you’re focusing on driving the car, but occasionally you do a quick glance down at the dashboard and then you keep driving.

You don’t stare at the dashboard the whole time; you’ll crash.

In a quick glance, you can check the speed, fuel, temperature, and you know exactly what you need to do if any of them is off.

For example, if your speed is a little too high, you take your foot off the pedal for a little bit.

That’s how I want you to be thinking about your business numbers.

  1. A quick glance at a couple of key metrics is enough to know what’s going on.
  2. You’ve got a pre-prepared list of simple actions to take to get the numbers back on track.
  3. You’re not staring at the numbers the whole time either.

That’s what I did for this agency owner.

We trimmed his metrics down from nine down to four and gave him some simple actions to follow if any of them got off track.

I suggest the same thing for you: pick the three to four metrics that really matter and prepare simple actions for when they’re off track.

If you don’t know what those metrics are for you, just send me a DM on Instagram.
